New Hair

Life was going just tickety boo…my Valentine and I picked up another couple and took a spontaneous overnight trip to Great Falls, MT, for the Valentines/Family Day (Canadian holiday!) weekend.

This picture was captured on our adventure – on Sunday, February 14.

3 short days later, I went to get my hair colored and trimmed!

Normally, I ONLY let my sister do my hair (as she is an extraordinary hair stylist!!), however timing didn’t work. I had a fabulous 1st experience at the same salon in January – getting a trim & a few foils to get me through my Mexican holiday.

However, this experience was a bit more unique!!

The hair stylist – I’m leaving her name unanimous (as we’re all human!) – was working on trimming the back of my hair. I’m bad about lifting my head during this process, so I was playing on my iPhone to keep my head down. The next time I looked up – BOOM – the right side of my hair went from below my chin (see picture above) to above my ears in minutes (see picture below)! It was all supposed to stay at chin length!

OH WOW!! I immediately knew I was in for a big change. The image of sporting an asymmetrical bob ran through my mind and then instantly I thought of a haircut my friend Jill gave me the summer before Grade 12, the morning after a big bash!

The attempt was made to salvage my hair, I stayed calm the best I could, but was really upset. It was 9pm on a Wednesday night. My hair is horrible! Yes, I knew it was only hair – but the same colors I’ve had for over 2 years did NOT work with the new hair cut.

“What was John going to say? Think?”

I left the salon and made 2 calls.

Call #1) My amazingly talented HAIR STYLIST sister Rayel – I was boo-hoo’ing! She didn’t think it could be that bad…until I sent her these pictures, that I captured when I got home! Rayel luckily made time for me in her new “Mom” schedule for the next day.

Picture comment: Yes, I was smiling! I was laughing out loud…between a few tears. I believe my smile was meant to attract hope and possibility when my sister would view them.

Call #2) My bestie Laura – favorite line of our emotional conversation, “This isn’t supposed to happen to us at this age!” Ha ha…I realize that we aren’t that experienced in life – but you get the point.

I went to bed, woke up, put on a ball cap, called into work & took a “personal” day!

Then, I drove 3 hours to my sister’s house and that is where the magic started.

I asked Rayel to capture a few more pictures of the damage when I arrived, as my selfies – didn’t do justice.

Next Morning BackNext Morning Sides

I still laugh – every time I look at these pictures!! Rayel & Laura – I know you two do also!!

AND for all of you fantastic followers…I can hear you giggling, you may have even grabbed the person that works next to you – to show them…funny funny ha ha…Would YOU show the world pictures of you looking this hot?? You’re laughing with me, not at – believe me!! Remember – it’s only hair, stay positive – have fun living life.

Bleach Bottom Correct the top color

My dynamic SISTA corrected the color of my hair, re-cut parts, and most importantly taught me how to style it FUNKY!

All I can say is, THANK YOU RAYEL – I am the luckiest lady around to have a personal hair stylist for a sister and friend.

I wasn’t and am still not upset at the hair stylist or the salon. Everyone is human and it’s only hair!! I truly believe that everything happens for a reason.

Positive Outcomes:

  • Easy to do
  • It’s Spring…my cute ears aren’t going to freeze…
  • Takes at least 5lbs off me, I’m convinced!
  • It’s Fun

Even after 2 months, the initial shock has wore off – I love my new hair! I have completely embraced the change! I’ve even had my sister cut it again – the same sassy length!!

Looking back – I know I’ve thought – I would love to get a complete makeover (something you’d see on TLC’s What Not To Wear or a Before/After article in a magazine)sit down and say – “do whatever you want”. I’m quite sure I didn’t say this out loud, that Wednesday afternoon, but I must have been attracting it subconsciously. What you think about, you bring about!

I really don’t want to open a can of negative worms – so I’m worried about asking whether – you have ever had an “interesting” hair experience (note that I didn’t say “bad” – that’s a negative word!)?

What I really want to know is – what is/was your favorite hair style? Were you 3 and recall a blast from the past picture? OR was it at your high school prom? Wedding? OR are you sporting it today?

My favorite hair cut and color was in high school – I’ll have to dig up a picture of it to share.

Have an amazing day!

Live Inspired,
Robyn

P.S. John LOVES my new “do”!

  1. I had a new stylist who didn’t listen to me when I said my hair pulls red easily. Well, I walked out of that salong with a majorly nasty rust color – I hated it. Oh ya, and the ‘bang’ part was an even worse shade which she did fix, but that was all she had time to do she said. Oh the things us women do to be beautiful hey!??!?! Love the new look! Definetly suits your sassy personality

  2. Love it! Glad u shared this “awesome” (and hilarious) situation! I must say it still makes me giggle and must say it worked out cuz u look fabulous!

  3. Oh, that was an exciting 24 hours my friend! And I agree with you and Rayel – it was meant to be. You look FABULOUS!

I’ve been fortunate to have four talented stylists since high school who have kept my hair looking its ultimate best, and I’m so grateful! Rayel, you and Taryn are two of those.

For interesting, I decided when I graduated uni that a spiral perm would be a good idea but it reacted with my highlights and melted my hair. YIKES! Then when on my Ontario adventure I ended up with bright orange/pink hair one time and had to sport it to a major event that weekend because the girl didn’t have time to fix it. And she thought it looked good!

  4. I have been waiting on this post and knew it would be hilarious! You look fab, I love it!

  5. Thank you SOOOO much ladies!! Katie – hope my short sassy cut brings on the babies – he he… (I suspect no one will see this comment, I mean who comes back to read!) Catherine – thanks for your comment & for following my blog – I’ve converted to the short club (for now! do you ever go back?). I’m glad I could make you laugh Justine!! Laura – thanks for being there. Oh I forgot about your spiral perm & think you forgot to mention your orange/pink experience to me sooner!! Rayel – I will forever be grateful for my makeover. Red head huh – I’m not picturing this Jody – do you have pics?

  6. I love your new look Robyn – you look so gorgeous! I got a good laugh of this post and loved reading the whole story – before and after! I’ve been pretty fortunate to have an awesome stylist for awhile now, but I can recall a few hair styles from quite awhile ago that just weren’t me! I once went into my regular salon, hoping to have my hair coloured an all-over darker colour, but ended up with random gold/orange hair colour! It took me awhile to trust a hair stylist with my colour again ;) And one time when I was in early years of highschool, I went to get a regular trim – just the split ends and ended up with super short hair – at least 4 inches shorter than what I wanted! I cried a lot since I’d had nice long locks at that time. Oh well, it grew back! :)
