It came and went!

Wow – Christmas snuck up and passed quickly!

We loved spending time with both sides of our family on both sides of the border.

Hope your holidays were magical.

I have lots of fun pics from our festive season to share…stay tuned!

Cheers,
Robyn

Olympic Torch

We just got back from seeing the Olympic torch in southern Alberta!! I forgot that it was going through our town today and when I realized it – we still had time to get into Lethbridge to see it. We spontaneously jumped in the car and chased down the torch on the route (John just loves when I do this – he he)!

I had tears in my eyes – I was so proud! He he…I cry for all occasions – happiness, sad – you name it – it comes very naturally for me, it’s genetic. I believe today it was a combination of – I may never seen something like it again – in Alberta OR my lifetime (never know what the future holds) AND that the Olympics are back on our homeland!

I recently learned from my American husband – that no Canadian has ever won a Gold medal while the Olympics have been in Canada. I haven’t researched the validity of this statement – but since he’s a pretty smart and resourceful guy – I just hope that Canada can break that record this year!

I’m really happy that we got to witness the running of the torch through our community.

The official 2010 Winter Olympics website is fabulous. I loved using the Torch Relay Interactive Map for detailed information on where the torch was “live” and what time it was expected in certain places.

Canadian followersDid you see the Olympic torch – when it was close to you??

“Patients” is a virtue!

If  you’ve seen my list of “categories” and saw “Patients” is a virtue or when I referred to the phrase in a blog entry – such as “Don’t Prefer“, you may have raised an eyebrow at my spelling. I wanted to explain myself.

This “saying” came from my amazing hubby! Patience is a talent that tests all of us daily and that requires us to constantly practice to improve. For as long as I can remember, whenever I kindly remind John that “patience is a virtue”, he always responds the same way:

“Doctors have patients!!”

Smarty pants I thought to myself – so this is why I write this phrase with the different “patients”! Next time someone provides you with constructive criticism try out the new comeback.

Robyn

Delights

I love when my husband is home at night…

after 5 wild business days last week getting back into the grind - I loved coming home to fun creations that my hubby had waiting for me.

Thanks for being my personal Chef Beazley.

To those that love to cook also – hope this inspires you to create a masterpiece at home!?

Desk Disaster

Oh wow – after a completely wild and insane week back to reality, I enjoyed a relaxing weekend at home. I tried to do as little as possible! He he…I enjoyed resting and spending time with my husband.

I spent a couple hours working in my home office last night – on a few tasks that had been hanging over my head. Although – I was a bit ticked at myself for not making more effort to clean my office over the weekend. However, if it was supposed to happen – it would have – no regrets.

Then this morning, I walked into my office at the Lethbridge College – where I am finishing up a 7 month contract. The sight was a reminder of just how crazy last week was and how I literally stopped and left to escape the chaos!

Lucky me… I learned a couple moments later that TODAY is “National Clean Off Your Desk Day“. Oh wow – all these new national days I’m learning about (Hope you took in Friday’s – that I talked about HERE). I truly need to acknowledge this annual event and get motivated.

I’m going to let you see a behind my success picture (oh I entertain myself!) - beware it’s scary and proves that I’m far from perfect!!

One of the skills that I’ve been constantly attempting to improve (note how I didn’t say it was a ”weakness” – no such thing – just a skill that isn’t a strengh, I’m just developing) - is exactly this – keeping my work space clutter free and clean.

If you’re a Type A personality – close your eyes – this next picture may make your stomach flip ;)

I will report back tomorrow of how I made out on my Action Step 1: Clean the top of my Lethbridge College desk by the end of the day!

The real challenge will be to attack my Action Step 2: Clean the top of my amazing home office tonight – desk and floor! It’s real scary.

Happy Cleaning – gotta love Monday’s,
Robyn

9: Swept off my feet by a Texan

We devoured the scrumptious snack and then watched some television in our living room. After awhile, I moved to the bed and got settled into the massive king bed our Marriott hotel room boasted. I dove into reading my Cosmopolitan magazine. I’m quite sure I was scouring it for suggestions of what to do, how to act, what to say, when you’re being swept off your feet – I don’t recall if I read any useful tips.

After awhile, John questioned, “Are you done with the television?”

“Yes thanks” I responded.

John turned the lights out and a few minutes passed. However…he didn’t come to bed!?

This got my curiosity interested, through the dark I asked, “Are you going to come and sleep in the bed?”

To which this charming, shy Texan replied, “No, I’m going to sleep on the couch.”

“WHY?” I questioned very puzzled. I would have liked to have seen the look on my own face.

“I’m a gentleman.”

Don’t Prefer

One of my least favorite words is the “H” word.

HATE.

It’s very cold and negative. Please try not to use it around me! He he…

I only tolerate positive energy!! Of course – everyone is allowed the “odd” 24 hour pity party – but that’s it. No more than that.

Where am I going with this? Many of you wonder just how I stay so positive – one secret is that I keep my energy level as high as I can by using the term “Don’t Prefer” instead of the “H” word.

Today – I was reminded of one of my “Don’t Prefer” things. I read my brother-in-love, Craig’s Facebook status and it amused me! He is one of the funniest guys I know - his status updates and humor can make your day. I’ll share in a minute what he said - but first a bit of background information.

When I married my amazing man – it became apparent that I would need to learn more about men very quickly.

Rule 1 in our home.Put BOTH parts of the toilet seat must be left down. That is at the “equal” state. If both are left up – it favors John. If one part of the seat is left down, it favors me.

When you’re a woman – you observe different parts of the toilet and how dirty they can become! I tend to notice the leftover liquid marks in front of the toilet on the tile – my blood pressure used to raise quite a bit. I question – why don’t men use toilet paper for #1? I try to recall when the last time I mentioned this “don’t prefer” topic with him.

Well…I learned a bit more about men today – with Craig’s Facebook status:

“No matter how much you dance or how much you prance the last drop always ends up in your pants.”

OR when you have a master ensuite - there aren’t always pants worn to absorb that. Lovely…

My solution for the future - leave a mop in the bathroom? install a different color of tile in our next home!? Stop looking down?

The purpose of my blog post – to share another snippet of how I think. I always look for the positive, laughter, and excitement in every situation. Many times – there is no point in getting upset or requesting multiple times for improvement. Lots of things are just going to happen. “Patients” is a virtue!

To my non-married friends – don’t let this scare you. Surprising, as a women we bring a lot more to the table for the guys to conform to then we end up putting up with!

Happy Day,
Robyn
