Seattle

Our May long weekend in Seattle was SO awesome! What a cool city to explore.

Day 1

I met John at the Vancouver airport and flew to Seattle together. We took the Sound Transit right from the airport to downtown Seattle for $2.50. I’m sharing some goofy details, just in case any of you want to visit one day.

Then we walked a few blocks to the condo we were renting.

On route, I discovered a Starbucks in the block beside our place!! He he…it wasn’t the famous first one in Seattle – I’ll show you pics of it later. However, I still found it very amusing.

I inserted arrows and text into the picture below, however it is very small. If you click the image, you may be able to see it better!

Our condo building in the Belltown district – just north of downtown.

Our friends were waiting for us, as they came in by Ferry. The dock they arrived at, was also very close to our home away from home. After devouring the “welcome basket” of treats that the owners had waiting for us, we went and bought groceries!

Dan ensured we had our iTunes playing!

We snacked!

John & Dan made salsa – which ended up being part of every meal we ate! From breakfast burritos to taco salad.

Our home away from home was perfect!

Stay tuned for more details of our adventure!!

Short, Short Week

It’s going to be a real short work week for me – lucky!

Thursday morning we kick off  our May long weekend in Seattle with our wonderful friends Dan & Corene. During our last spontaneous road trip to Great Falls, MT (the weekend before my hair got chopped) with this fun couple; it was discovered that both Corene and John really wanted to visit this west coast city! Dan and me decided that we’d support the adventure, so the planning begun.

My hubby really wants to see the Space Needle

…so we’re going for dinner in the restaurant at the top.

Corene really wants to explore the Pike Place Market

…I trust we’ll take in the flying fish and explore the market thoroughly, including the first Starbucks! (Which we all know I love – from my Coffee Date tour & posts about Starbucks)

Honestly, I knew very little about Seattle before the planning began, other than my favorite TV show – Grey’s Anatomy takes place there and I’ve often seen the city skyline in episodes.

I checked to see if the Seattle Mariners’ were playing at home during our visit, as I know baseball is John’s favorite sport.

We lucked out and we’re going to take in a game…

(I trust John will) buy me some peanuts and cracker jack!

I’m going to be doing dances all week to attract lots of lots of sunshine during our trip!

Have you been to Seattle? Any suggestions on must-do things?

I look forward to sharing pictures when we return. Follow me on Twitter (@robynbeazley) for my vacation updates.

Happy Travels,

Weekend in Vancouver

Our adventure to Vancouver last weekend for a getaway & charity auction was fabulous!

We took the Canada Line SkyTrain to our downtown hotel – it was super easy to navigate.

View Vancouver, BC Canada Line, SkyTrain

My lovely suitcase (the burgundy one) has 4 wheels, so John was really smart and cornered it so it wouldn’t roll all over!

The Fairmont Waterfront was our home for 2 nights – it was a fantastic hotel.

I packed a few pairs of shoes for our adventure – this picture amuses me.

On Friday afternoon, we explored Vancouver by walking the sea board.

We walked down and through Stanley Park – so gorgeous and peaceful!

My hubby and I had both been to Vancouver before separately – so we just walked parts of Granville Street & Robson Street.

We found an amazing Mexican Restaurant further down Robson Street called Don Guacamole. John actually said, “This is the best Mexican food I’ve had in Canada” – this is almost an oxymoron – as nothing is comparable north of the Red River (river that divides Texas & Oklahoma). It was a fabulous experience and satisfied our cravings for our favorite food.

On Saturday, we relaxed, read, and walked more!

P.S. For our US/International friends – Tim Horton’s is a rival coffee shop to Starbucks in Canada – these 2 were literally 10 steps apart in an open air building – I thought it was cute.

We got all dressed up for the fancy Charity Auction that were out for.

I was feeling sassy and decided to take a selfie while waiting for John to finish getting ready (just had to rub that in).

Recall me telling you there was a Shoe Raffle – well it was a Christian Louboutin ($$) Shoe Raffle!! The winner was awarded the pair of pumps on display with the option to exchange at Holt Renfrew for another pair up to $800! (Stacy – I trust that could have gone nicely towards the boots on your wish list!)

John did an amazing job conducting the Live Auction & Tele-a-therapy of the evening. I LOVE listening to him auctioneer ;)

Hope your weekend is “amazing”!

Monday Motivation

Hey friends,

Trust you had a fabulous weekend. On my drive home last night, I was unwinding by recording a few of my thoughts with ”Voice Memos” on my iPhone. I present you with my first ”Audio Blog Entry“:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Hope you’ll make time to listen to it and let me know what you think (One day I’ll explore Video Blogging too!).

Hugs,
Robyn

P.S. If you’d also like to upload your “Voice Memos” into your WordPress blog – this is what I did. I found this Plugin – Audio Player (the developer’s website - http://wpaudioplayer.com) was very helpful)! Then I converted my M4a’s with this free M4a to Mp3 converter (it may very well have also downloaded spyware on my computer at the same time (it seems that anything free comes with surprises) - I have no idea – but it worked) and uploaded my videos into my Dashboard.

Coffee Date – would love to see you!

Hi Alberta friends,

I miss you!! The last year, I haven’t been able to spend as much time in my old stomping grounds or even quality time with my southern Alberta friends. I wish there were more hours in a day, to setup more dates with each one of you individually. However between now and then – I’d love to see you!

I’m coming up to this weekend (foot loose and fancy free – John is away) and as last minute & informal as it is – I am welcoming you to one of 4 open Coffee Dates OR the one next week back in southern Alberta. I am craving a weekend of socializing and being surrounded by empowering friends.

If you’d like to see me (who wouldn’t – ha ha!), please stop in for a visit!! If you’re turning your nose up (my friends don’t do that!) – Because of this impersonal invitation and group get together – I apologize – but the reality is there is only 1 of me and my amazingly big network of friends! I’m doing the best that I can.

Hope to see you at one of the locations below, for:

  1. Socializing – I’m SO excited to catch up with you over a cup of joe
  2. Networking – “If” there happens to be more than 1 person stop in – you may get to meet someone new!
  3. Positive Energy – he he…you get to spend a bit of time with me – surely you’ll go away with a bit more pep in your step and a smile, after my enthusiasm is showered all over you!
  4. New Catalog… If you’re an Arbonne client, I’ll give you your copy of the new Arbonne catalog. I’d much rather buy you a coffee, than spend money on postage!

I have no idea how many people will show up during the time – 1, 10, or ZERO! It really doesn’t matter. I’m bringing a book with me and the worst that happens is I’ll read for the time.
Come & Go – Stop in Briefly – or Stay the whole Time!

April Fools

Hint hint…there is a contest to WIN at the bottom of this post!!!

______________________________________

I thought I had successfully hid from any April Fools jokes today – but I was sadly mistaken!

(I giggled over Crystal & Stacy’s April Fools stories on their blogs!!)

I returned to my office from a meeting just after 11am to find a fabulous Turtles Egg left on my desk! I love chocolate, love Turtles, and love Easter…this kind gift got me excited. My coworker Joanna let me in on who the secret Bunny was.

I sent a quick email to my coworker Carole, on the other side of campus.

“Thanks for visiting Easter bunny. Have an amazing weekend!”

Carole smartly responded – “Just remember that the egg is not your lunch!  Have a great Easter!”

Hmm… “Oh…you know me too well…” I replied.

THEN…I continued to break into my surprise. I live by the motto – Eat Dessert First!

Inside the colorful bag was the egg wrapped in foil. I pulled it back and cautiously took a bite, expecting it to explode with filling. This was NOT what happened – it was a light, airy bite – my egg was HOLLOW!

The funny thing is – I still at this point – didn’t “realize” that I has been shorted. I’m sure I gave out a little grunt of disappointment and thought to myself – huh, good on Nestle for saving money on the filling and selling thousands of these eggs! I disposed of the trash and went on with my action steps.

THEN at about 1:30pm – my coworker Joanna made the comment of how awesome her egg was that she was enjoying!

I kind of smartly sneered, “Your hollow egg?”

“No, it has turtle filling!”

Mmm…the light bulb finally turned on and was shinning down on this blonde diva!

The wheels started turning inside my head, Nestle needs to know about this, I’m going to look on their website. Then Joanna said something like, “Maybe you should call and report this!”

I looked up with my sneaky grin. I grabbed the bag from the garbage, found a 800#, and dialed.

At this point – Joanna and Morgan were busting a gut watching me intently.

The Customer Service representative was amazing!

“Happy Easter” I exclaimed and giggled my way through my “April Fool’s” story to the lady attendant.

The fantastic woman informed me that she wanted to make this right for me. She explained that this will be reported to the Plant Manager – to explore where the problem happened on the assembly line. I could visualize it all happening – like a scene off the Undercover Boss (my new favorite TV show – watch snipets on YouTube.com OR if you’re in Canada visit the CTV website OR USA – visit the CBS website)! I gave her the bar code and stamped numbers on the bag.

While on the phone, my two supportive friends were sharing my experience with the growing crowd that stood outside of my office waiting for the verdict!

The conversation finished by me providing my mailing address. That’s right – in 10-14 business days, I will receive a COUPON for free products from Nestle!!

I will let you know what I receive – when it arrives ;)

After reflecting, I had to laugh that of all the people my friend Carole gave Eggs to – I received the one (or the only one that has reported to our group!) that was missing the goodness of the treat! I can only imagine if my friend Morgan would have received…he he…

The Experience

A few weeks ago – I was sitting in my office at the Lethbridge College on a Friday morning. A coworker emailed and asked if I was going to the presentation. I replied – “what presentation?’

“Oh the one in…(room)…it’s something motivating” I had NO idea about this opportunity. I looked at my clock, it was in 7 minutes! Since I’m flexible and up for a little break – I concluded I could finish a project later.

I went to the theater with completely no knowledge of who was speaking and what about.  I walked in and on the desks sat a workbook.

img213

I still hadn’t clued in by the authors name. I looked around and could see the speaker sitting down in the front row, waiting to be introduced.

img212

Then the speaker was introduced – Dr. Joseph Michelli, PhD, author of the book The Starbucks Experience.

Oh WOW – how cool! I read his book while on vacation last December.

Joseph’s speech was fabulous. HOW he gave his presentation resonated with me even more – as I was only 7 days away from launching my own speaking career! I was a sponge – observing how he interacted with the audience, varied his voice, asked questions, presented himself, etc.

Me&StarbucksMan

I was a real dork – the only one at our presentation – that wanted a photo with Dr. Michelli.

(Side note – Is it just me or do I look really gifted in this photo! he he…good shirt I suppose.)

When you least expect it – opportunities present themselves! It’s about the people and experiences in our life that shape us – not the material things! I didn’t have to attend this presentation, change my plan for the morning, however – I am blessed that I got to learn. When you stop learning, you stop living.

I suggest you keep your eyes and ears open to chances to personally grow. You never know what’s going on in your network or community.

One of my personal success principles, is taking advantage of personal growth opportunities.
