I’ve been MIA for a couple weeks. Honestly, I’ve had a bit of “writers block” and every time I sit down to work on a blog post – the words haven’t been flowing. My rule is - if I can’t sit down and punch out a fun blog post in 20-30 mins, I’m wasting both of our time - as it probably won’t be easy to read or as exciting as you’d want.

However, this weekend - I am foot loose, fancy free and re-energized to share a dose of inspiration with you – through my daily adventures.

Stay tuned for blog posts about:

Swept off my feet by a Texan (YAH I hear you getting exciting…he he…it seems to be one of your favorite categories AND I’m way overdue sharing many more details)

Our Seattle Trip

Mother/Daughter Coach Purses

A time management tool I’ve been utilizing

Our new niece Stella!

Giveaway of a friend’s book that my sister & I have enjoyed reading

More Spring Cleaning – office and dresser style

Any much more…

Thanks for being patient, following, and continuing to check back to read new posts (that haven’t been here the last little bit)!

Have an amazing weekend!

On the lovely morning of Thursday, March 11th at 6am, I jumped from bed to the alarm going off on my cell phone. (When John is out of town I set 2 alarms – my alarm clock on the night stand and my cell phone somewhere else, so I have to physically get out of bed to turn off). This particular morning, my cell phone was plugged into the wall at the bottom of the stairs that come up to our bedroom.

In the dark, I hustled to turn it off. During my journey down the 7 steps…

I lost my footing and took a tumble!

SPLAT

I knew instantly that my right knee/leg was hurt – I just didn’t know bad.

There I was at the bottom of the stairs, on the hardwood – home alone.

You see, I have a bit of a history with injuries. I’ve been nicknamed a klutz. Before I was 12, I had experienced 3 broken arms, 1 broken leg, and a set of stitches. Then I tore my ACL (ligament over your knee) in my left leg in my Grade 12/Senior year of high school.

John was away, so long story short, I finally got a hold of an awesome couple that we are friends with, that lived just down the street.

They took me to the hospital to get checked out.

No x-rays were taken, the doctor just did a physical test on my knee. He concluded nothing was broken and sent me on my way. Hmm…not exactly the examination I had envisioned.

Either way – the main thing in the back of my mind, was the Early Childhood Education Conference that I had been planning for 4 months, as a side contract! This tumble had very “unique” timing, as the conference started the next day and I still had hours of work to do!

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

The show had to go on!

I popped some Tylenol, my kind friends let me borrow their crutches and I dug out my backpack to help me carry things around. I packed it up and then travelled around with all of my possessions on my back, so I had everything I needed. I looked like a real prize.

Here’s a glimpse of what I looked like the next morning getting ready.

Crutches – check.

Backup – check.

Tylenol – check.

(With this new hair style – my hair is a bit wild in the morning! Sporting my flannel PJ’s that my friend Jill gave me in high school – yikes – maybe I should upgrade!)

I tried to get around on my crutches for awhile – but the reality was, that they hurt my under arms and were terribly slow! My amazing nursing coworkers hooked me up with a wheelchair!!

I don’t even look injured in the picture below. On top of being the Event Planner, I was also the MC of the Conference. The pretty pink scarf (that didn’t really go with my outfit) was a way for delegates to identify the committee/organizers!

I appear to be putting pressure on my right leg – but then I realized I was taking a picture of myself through a mirror. I indeed have no weight on my right knee, that is wrapped under my pants.

The conference was hugely successful!

From keynote speakers to the trade show!

I ditched my crutches about a week after the fall and I have been waddling around like a duck, instead of flying around like the Robin that I am.

I finally went to a physiotherapist about 10 days ago – to get completely mobile before summer.

I questioned Nathan how I was “supposed to wear capri’s and other cute bottoms with this on?”

It’s all part of healing process I suppose!

My latest tape was “nude” colored and I forgot to remove when laying out in the sun on the weekend.

SOOO…I got a sweet suntan line – lovely…

I am getting around awesome. Not quite running yet – but with the help of my physiotherapist – will be soon I hope ;) I’ve never been a runner before – but after this setback – I have the urge to learn how to run and do a 1/2 marathon! Thanks for the inspiration, friends and fabulous followers – Lori, Tiffany, Amy and Cathryn (plus many more of you – that run also!).

I have laughed at myself the entire time and made a lot of lemonade!

Enjoy the sunshine!

Hugs,

Hugs,

I really enjoyed the 2010 Olympics – from my Olympic Torch experience to watching the hockey games – Go Canada Go.

I got this email today (author – Unknown) from a friend about the medal ceremony flowers and wanted to share – it’s a really cool story.

“The (odd-looking?) bouquet of flowers presented to each medalist on the podium at the Winter Olympics- 1,800 in all – are all the same, made up of green spider mums with hypericum berries surrounded by leather-leaf fern, monkey grass, and aspidistra leaves.”

I get so humbled when I learn about businesses like this one – that help others.

This is an awesome reminder for me to continue evaluating what I’m doing and ensure that I’m looking for ways to to provide opportunities to others.

We just got back from seeing the Olympic torch in southern Alberta!! I forgot that it was going through our town today and when I realized it – we still had time to get into Lethbridge to see it. We spontaneously jumped in the car and chased down the torch on the route (John just loves when I do this – he he)!

I had tears in my eyes – I was so proud! He he…I cry for all occasions – happiness, sad – you name it – it comes very naturally for me, it’s genetic. I believe today it was a combination of – I may never seen something like it again – in Alberta OR my lifetime (never know what the future holds) AND that the Olympics are back on our homeland!

I recently learned from my American husband – that no Canadian has ever won a Gold medal while the Olympics have been in Canada. I haven’t researched the validity of this statement – but since he’s a pretty smart and resourceful guy – I just hope that Canada can break that record this year!

I’m really happy that we got to witness the running of the torch through our community.

I loved using the Torch Relay Interactive Map for detailed information on where the torch was “live” and what time it was expected in certain places.
