Every detail counts

WOW! It’s Friday already, how exciting. I hope you have a fantastic weekend (a long one for my US friends) and enjoy the sunshine.

We love having company over to entertain and play with. My detail oriented hubby has taught me that an experience is much more amazing when more of your senses are stimulated. Do everything with charisma! I was excited to have my gorgeous friend Stacey, from a couple hours away, come over for dinner and a visit last night; she’s down for a horse show.

My awesome friend and new Arbonne business partner Tracy is coming over tonight for cocktails and a savvy training session.

The glasses and I are ready to be filled with Rhubarb Slush!

I’m really spoiled this week since my fantastic friend Twila, also from a few hours away, is making a road trip down in the morning to stay for the weekend – I’m so blessed!

Our gorgeous orchid – this beautiful flower has a story…

My wish is for your weekend to be amazing!

You Never Know

“I dare you to make someone smile or laugh” (Robyn Beazley) this weekend while you are out and about. Last weekend John and I were doing errands around town; we took our recycling in and soaked in the rays. We were slowly driving through the community we live in, admiring the flowers and yard work being done by citizens.

We spotted a house that had gorgeous bunches of tulips in full bloom and as we approached the home, we saw a “more experienced” couple in the front yard attending to the weeds. The precious, frail lady was in a motorized wheelchair watching as a guy, I’m assuming her partner did the physical work. I asked John to slow down and pull over as we came to the front of their lot.

I hollered out, “Your yard is gorgeous!”

The couple smiled and thanked us.

I left them with, “I hope you two have an amazing day” and a smile.

It made my day to share with these two people how much I enjoyed the beauty of their yard and the work they, I can only hope that it made their day a bit more exciting.

Then we came to a 4 way intersection and a young boy was working on his bike. John slowed down and pulled beside him and asked,

“Do you want help fixing your bike?”

I don’t know what the little guy responded, but John got out and helped him put the chain back on his bike. The experience sent shivers through my body! I love seeing John interact with children, he’s going to make an awesome Dad, one day…not yet ;) and I was so proud of him for helping someone else having a fantastic day.

These stories and experience came to mind when I read the quote in, “My Daily Inspiration from WALKTHETALK.com”‏ (subscribe to have motivational quotes and videos sent to your Inbox)

You never know when a moment and a few sincere words can have an impact on a life.” –Zig Ziglar

Do you look for ways to make people’s day more amazing? Simply with a grin or giggle?

Rhubarb Slush

The famous Rhubarb slush!!

______________

With summer in full swing, I wanted to share this post again – as I’m excited to welcome many new followers since I originally posted! You may also enjoy making Southwest Cups to accompany your sweet drink!

______________

I’d like to take credit for this recipe, but in 1997, a family friend shared it with my Mom!!

After some begging by a couple followers:

“Recipe for rhubarb slush please…..?” Andrea

“Rhubarb Slush??? Is that something you make yourself?”  Shandie

I’m going to give in and share my favorite summer drink recipe! Divas I hope the two of you especially LOVE this cocktail!!

Rhubarb Slush

8 c. rhubarb (cut up)
2 qts. water (8 c.)
1/2 c. lemon juice
3 c. sugar
1 pkg. strawberry jello (reg size)
2 c. vodka

Cook rhubarb until soft in 8 c. of water and 3 c. sugar mixture. Put through a seive (I use leftover pulp to make a crisp!) Add 1 pkg of strawberry jello. Stir well. Let cool. Add 2 c. vodka. Stir; put into ice cream pail. When cool, freeze. Wait 3 days. Serve by filling glass 1/2 full with slush and half Sprite, 7-Up or even Ginger Ale!

I highly suggest you dress up your drink to really Surprise & Delight!

ENJOY!

$12 well spent!

There are a few things that get under my skin and my closet was one that was just getting to me last summer!

AFTER

WOW – could you feel the POSITIVE energy and the burden lifted off your shoulder when you saw the second picture?? I experience it every time I relook at these pictures.

Yes, I am a unique person – not everyone is as cool as me, to think of photographing Before & After pictures of my closet!!

IF you are inspired by these pictures – make sure you buy GOOD hangers. I personally prefer the ones that have the two openings on the top to hang tank tops, sleeveless tops/dresses or hook the plastic/fabric pieces (inside some tops) onto! You also want to make sure you get hangers that are wide enough to hang tops that have big openings! You may think I’m crazy, but laugh now and experience what I’m talking about if you run out and don’t buy the perfect hangers!!

When I was buying my six packages of hangers at Wal Mart, my husband was having a “man” moment! I think they were born with the instict to natter their partners, in hopes that we will get so annoyed that we won’t spend the money or buy the thing(s) we found at the store!!

“You don’t really need to buy hangers”
“What is wrong with the ones you have”
“They are just hangers Robyn, no one looks in your closet to see if they are matching”

That wasn’t the point, I just needed to be at peace with my closet, as I am in it everyday that I’m home. We all look at the hangers, how the clothes are hanging and how easy things are to find – consciously or unconsciously!

Well interestingly enough, after making the change to my closet, a couple days later John in his really innocent voice and puppy dog eyes said,

“Can you do my side of the closet now?”

I still haven’t!

However, some of my white hangers seem to have found their way onto the “man” side!! One day I’ll surprise him. I just couldn’t bring myself to running out to the store and start changing his side of the closet as much as I wanted to – because that would make it look like I just jump when he asks me to ;)! I don’t (all) the time! When he least expects it, I’ll have it waiting for him ;) AND yes, he WILL notice, he’s that kind of guy!

P.S. Do I see you imagining what your closet looks like OR are you heading to your bedroom right now to observe?? He he…I love it!

Valentines 2009

Every day is Valentines in our household ;)He he… my husband and I love to celebrate life all the time. We love to open up a bottle and toast to whatever day of the week it is or the small successes and joys of life!  “Here’s to Saturday!” was what we said on Valentines ;)

We were going to go out on Saturday to celebrate the traditional way for Valentine’s Day, but I wanted to use a nice gift certificate we had. However, no reservations were available for Saturday or Sunday! We both spend enough time on the road, that a day at home, was thoroughly enjoyed!

We rejoiced by opening up a nice bottle of wine – a selection from Cakebread Cellars (I gifted John the opportunity to attend a Sommelier Course for his Birthday! – I’ll write more about this later!), and grazed on a variety of cheeses (there is always a few choices in our fridge), had olives and devoured John’s homemade rolls that we dipped in vinegar and Italian olive oil (Only the best in John’s minds – especially after our trip to Italy for our honeymoon – another story to write about!).

The key to any wining and dining experience in our home is presentation! When something as simple as I described, is platted and served with elegance, it is savoured that much more and is sure to taste more amazing!
