Fending for Myself

My amazing husband works for Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers. He travels lots to sales all over Canada and a few in the United States. John is very passionate about being an Auctioneer and supporting all areas of the company from Sales, Yard, and Customer Service staff. Yes, my hubby can “talk” fast . However the skill of bid calling and being an auctioneer are much more in depth than possessing the quality of being a fast speaker! If that’s the only quality they needed to posess - clearly I’d be very wealthy with my natural ability. He he…

My Texan is on the road for a couple weeks, leaving me at home to fend for myself. I’m really hard done by, I know. Not likely – I get so much done when he’s away so that I can enjoy the time even more when he’s closer to home. I miss my soul mate when he’s away – however we thrive on quality time.

I giggled so hard when I saw this cartoon! Obviously the child and pet are out of the picture for us for the time being. John has a blast when he’s on the road and that is so satisfying. My talented husband loves what he does for a living. If you love what you do – you never work another day in your life.

Berry Picking

Last Sunday, we went on a romantic drive west of my parents. We made a scenic tour in the foothills by Sundre, AB and got Ice Cream from a quaint little shop. The best part – John surprised the nice “experienced” couple in line behind us and paid for theirs ;) I love paying it forward!

Then we made a fun stop at my Uncle and Tante’s (French for Aunt!) for out of the blue. Our astonishing visit was welcomed with a pail and a promise for a brewski (Canadian slang for beer!) after a little work. My outdoorsy Uncle is famous for picking and growing fruits and vegetables.

The mission was to pick Saskatoon’s my grandparents. Unfortunately, my Grandma (my Uncle’s sister) hasn’t been well as a result of treatments she’s going through. So this kind gesture that was initiated by my Uncle to brighten her day. Everything happens for a reason – so John & I arrived on a perfect day to help with the harvest and deliver the fruit my Grandma loves.

This experience was also a “first” for my Texan! Thank goodness he’s an Eagle Scout and is prepared for everything – his long windpants provided the protection he needed to avoid getting the itch from the needle weed.

Ready Pickin

It was a perfect way to wrap up a Sunday afternoon.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

I not only survived the Calgary Stampede – I’m feeling fantastic. I often get quite exhausted and the stress takes a toll on me from an intense short term contract. However, I came into this 12 day contract with a different attitude. I had a blast and am excited to escape with my amazing husband for a few days.

Airport

We’re Texas bound this morning! John and I are headed south for a hot summer visit. We’ll see family, friends, and soak in the rays. John has been reading lots the last couple weeks…

Reading   TheStarbucksExperience

Today, he was enjoying The Starbucks Experience. It seemed rather fitting because I won a bet and he bought me Starbucks for breakfast!!

We normally fly to DFW directly, however this trip - we tried Continental Airlines. They were fantastic! You actually get meals included for free – so we were offered breakfast. You also get FREE movies. We would highly recommend this airline.

We connected in Houston and enjoyed Mexican food!! Surprise, surprise ;)

 Houston   Pappasitos

Pappasitos, true authentic Tex Mex - love Texas fast food experiences. (You may recall that we ate at another location last trip).   PappasitosHouston

We picked up our car and the temperature gage said 41C (105F) – yikes!

Despite having a fabulous week at the Calgary Stampede, we crashed when we arrived at our hotel and caught up on some much needed sleep. Tonight we met up with my girlfriend Kattie from University.

Our preference for dinner – Mexican of course ;) We had a fantastic feast at On The Border.

After stuffing ourselves with amazing cuisine, we went to Wal Mart to walk our dinner off. I love that its open 24 hours a day. Can you believe that it is still 38C (100F) at 10pm at night?

Happy Canada Day

I hope you’ve had an amazing Canada Day, celebrating our freedom with family and friends. I woke up this morning and while laying in bed spent a few minutes reflecting on my blessed life. I am so grateful to be a Canadian. Born and raised in a modern society with freedom and safety.

Representing the west and east on Canada Day!

Canada Day was my first day at Stampede Park getting ready for the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. I was thrilled that my friend Stephanie was out from Ontario, for a couple weeks to help the Agriculture department.

What did YOU do to celebrate Canada Day?

Stampede Bound

Hi!! Hope your weekend was amazing. I was able to catch up on some much needed rest and stay close to home – I didn’t leave our yard once. I was physically and mentally preparing for an exciting 12 day stint!

Tomorrow afternoon, I’m driving north for the Calgary Stampede! This will be my 6th year working for the Agriculture department over the 10 days.

csposter

For the past 5 years, I have taken on various contracts as an Event Planner, Facility Coordinator, and doing Research & Development for new programs at the Calgary Stampede.  Despite the world renown fair being most recognized for the 10 day festival, there is also lots of planning done for Here. All Year. programs also.

cslogo

This year I have a few duties. I’ll kick off the week as a Facility Coordinator, focusing mainly on the Saddledome. While answering phone calls and replying to inquires for the 2009 Calgary Stampede Farm Tour.  I’ve been planning this experience from home for a few months and will see that through during the final weekend.

farmtours2009

I started packing this weekend and getting organized. I’ll spend 12+ hour days on my feet, in the heat and on cement. I learned a very wise lesson my first year, from one of my mentors, the late Don Stewart. He encouraged us to change our shoes AND socks multiple times in a day. This amazing advice has saved my feet from many blisters.

If you’re going to take in the Calgary Stampede – please let me know – would love to see your smiling face, even if its just for a minute.

Yeehaw,
Robyn

Sunday Drive

I spent yesterday with my husband – it was a blast and ended with a perfect date night. It was indeed Father’s Day, so we called our Dad’s while driving!

My hardworking husband has been spending 16 hour days getting ready for an Auction Sale at the end of this week. Instead of staying home by myself yesterday, I went for the ride and helped out.

Taking a drive in southern Alberta is always interesting to me. I enjoy learning about the unique crops and farming practices. John isn’t much for slowing down for my picture capturing, so hopefully you can make out a few things. I wrote descriptions of what the pictures are – click on them to read!

Have an amazing week!

Robyn

Texas Favorites

We love Texas! On this l-o-n-g weekend in Canada, we’re reminiscing about Texas. Our southern family gets to enjoy a long one next weekend!

Ranch Road

Ranch Roads & Farm Roads, plus all the cool residences and businesses that dress up their properties with flags, crosses, and other Texas “junk”!

Tea

Mmm…Sweet Texas Tea…excellent idea, I’m going to go make some right now. This particular juice container is JUST for Tea at my mother-in-loves. I love raiding her fridge when I’m visiting…made from real tea bags cooked with boiling water, a lot of sugar is added. It goes in the fridge warm and when its fresh, is so amazing served fresh over ice! Mmm…perfect for a sunny, warm day!

Tabasco

Everything is bigger in Texas!

Cool Tx Decor

Texans are so patriotic and everywhere you look they are making things in the shape of their state!

Hope you’re enjoying your long weekend with family and friends!

Love,
The Beazley’s

Texas Wishes

Before I left for Texas, just over a month ago – I ran a contest to photo ideas! I am going to debut a few more pictures from our trip and hopefully satisfy a few requests. Thanks ladies for your input and for following my blog!

1. Lacy Rowan “pics of nature blossoming”

This is probably one of my favorite pictures from our trip – I love Bluebonnets (official Texas flower)! Have a fabulous time in Texas Lacy – showing off Zane!

    2. Deanne  ”I suggest that you start taking creative pictures….John at his old school playground, rustic ranch pictures, A day in the life of the Beazley Family (Texas Style). ”

Fabulous idea Deanne, thanks for the tips! I tried a couple of your setting ideas, but picked this one to report back to you ;) John loves to cook and is all about presentation in everything he prepares. This quaint store was full of condiments that you could try and was decorated with a country, western flair! John was so much fun to watch explore and he kept saying – oh, try this one or oh, look at this!

    3. Kattie  ”happy couple in a special way. Like taking a picture of the groom when everyone is looking at the bride or taking a picture during a special moment in their new life together.”

I had a lot of fun with this one! I tried to get their faces when the bride was coming down the aisle and the groom’s reaction, but that didn’t turn out. However – a memory that will stay with me forever was the fact that my sister-in-love wanted the getaway truck as dirty as my brother-in-love could get it – they both love to go “mudding”! As they left the wedding, this picture pulled all of the elements of the day together – off to spend the rest of their lives with one another!

    4. Michelle  ”I’ve never been to Texas so take plenty of pictures so I can live vicariously through you! How about the Alamo?”

I hope you’ll get the chance to explore Texas one day Michelle! There is so much to see and do! Texans are so patriotic and paint anything they can with their flag or the shape of their state. We weren’t in San Antonio this trip capture the Alamo, but the Fort Worth Stockyards are a must see, as well as a visit to Billy Bob’s, a famous country bar. I also encourage you to attend a Trades Day, huge outdoor flea market with fabulous finds! More pictures about these different areas still to come.

    5. Shelagh “some green, green grass, leaves, something…we’re dying for it here. So sick of this snow.”

Spring is near Shelagh!! It was raining, but I really appreciated the bright green ditches and fields!

    6. Crystal “The table settings!”

Each table was decorated different with western/country decor and candles from my mother-in-loves home! I was trying to be as cool as you with my shots and capture some of the background with this picture… I’ll keep practicing!!

    7. stacey “bride and bridemaid’s hair please. I have no idea how I want my hair for my wedding.”

Stacey – all of the bridesmaid’s hair was worn down and they wore jeans! I thought my sister-in-love looked gorgeous with her veil, you don’t see that much anymore. Hope your wedding plans are going awesome!

    9. laura ” but please take some eye candy pics! I know, it’s selfish and slightly immature, but there are few things as beautiful as a good looking man in a nice hat, button up, starched jeans and cool boots. And these specimens are plentiful in Te-has!”

Well Laura, on any given day, I would agree there would be an abundance of your description. However, I was around a lot of “rednecks” at the wedding, if I was at a cattle show or bar, there may have been more “eye candy”! I thought you’d appreciate some American country dancing – arm straight out & the woman practically getting chocked by her partners arm! There is a well dressed man in the background of the picture! The lead singer in the band was cute; you know he could sing the Texas country & red dirt tunes!

More pictures and tales to come from our trip to Texas! I think I need to do a whole entry on food, because I took lots of pictures while we were enjoying our favorite foods when we travel south!

    Glimpse of Texas!!

    Hey ya’ll!!

Hope you’re doing amazing!!  Just got back from our fabulous trip to Texas for the wedding and going on a mini road-trip! I’ve been thrown back into reality and have a full schedule this week HOWEVER whenever I can, I’m going to get a few more pics up and details from our getaway!

This was my hubby and I’s first trip since I’ve started blogging! He is slowly getting used to me snapping pics of everything! He doesn’t quite understand why I can’t just enjoy the scenery and experiences (like I usually do – because often pictures of gorgeous things don’t do the situation justice), I keep telling him I am, but I want to share my passion with others also!!  He he…this is going to be a journey and process, I realize!!

Thanks again for all your fabulous posts about what I should capture by photo – it was a huge help and inspiration!

    pappasitosfood

The first thing we did when we arrived in Texas was EAT!!  he he…I thought about posting a pretty picture from Texas as the opening photo of this post, but it wasn’t fitting!  My hubby and I LOVE Mexican Food (well…the proper description is probably Tex Mex!) – so we wanted to enjoy as much we could while we were south!  Mmm…fresh chips and salsa!!  AND yes – I did enjoy the feature Margarita – the Horny Toad!  This amazing meal was enjoyed at Pappasitos

    crossesfredricksburg

We drove south in the rain – yes, there wasn’t a lot of sunshine, rainbows, and lollipops! However, we enjoyed the drive and our amazing visit to Fredricksburg, Texas in gorgeous Hill Country, east of Austin! Most of the stores had lovely signs that said NO pictures or drawings of what you see! Well…I was sneaky and captured a few pics by turning off my flash – yikes!

    cactus-bluebonnet

We saw beautiful countryside, enjoying the diverse geographic areas of Texas – from cacti to the plains! I managed to sweet talk my hubby into stopping a few times on the side of the road to take some pictures of the beautiful rock, cactus’ and my favorite – Bluebonnets - the official Texas flower!

    brideboot

THEN the whole reason for going back to Texas this trip – the WEDDING!!  I don’t know that I mentioned it was going to be in a barn and would be a bit Redneck!  It was SO much fun and perfect for the couple!  Here is a glimpse of my new sister-in-love! We are SO excited for the newlyweds!

More pictures and details to come from our Texas trip…PLUS I have to report back with pictures of all the requests!!  Make someone smile today!
