Singing Out Loud

Hope you’ve had an amazing weekend!

My marvelous husband’s Star Birthday is tomorrow and I gave him his gift early ;)

(Thank goodness for our Costco rebate check – I could treat him!)

John has been talking about an iPod for a while. He LOVES music (and thinks I should be able to identify the artist and name of song on que – however that is part of the “opposite” skills that brought our relationship together!). My auctioneer hubby also wanted to upload clips from sales he’d done to learn from and improve. Always learning…that’s what life is all about.

ipod

Thanks to my beautiful friends Tam & Nolan – I was surprised with an iPod Shuffle a few weeks ago!

Our friends Johnny and Jen kindly shared their playlists with us while they were here. So John had a HUGE head start to his library of music. He has honestly been so addicted to iTunes for the past 1 1/2 days. I love it – he’s so excited to learn everything. John was busy compiling music for his work trip tomorrow with his new toy. I wanted to spend time with him – so I made myself at home next time surfing the net.

iTunes

I had no idea John was going to get so many hours of entertainment out of this present! Out of nowhere John informs me he’s going to mow the lawn. When I turned to look at him – he was so cute!!

HappyHubby

I was doing some things inside when I hear this loud voice singing away. I thought it was the computer still playing iTunes but no – it was John! He was outside mowing and just givener!!

Ha ha – I’m laughing WITH! It was amazing to hear my hubby’s voice singing out loud with the music on his new iPod.

That’s what life is all about. Sing like no one is listening ;)

Summer Reading

My phenomenally motivated friend Tiffany just finished Law School and for over 2 months, has been studying for her Bar Exam. After she writes it next week, she’s going on her dream trip to Europe! She sent an email to a few friends for book suggestions.

My reply was:

Depends on what you’re looking for. I read a lot of inspirational self help/improvement books:

The Go-Giver by Bob Burg (quick, good read)
The Success Principles by Jack Canfield (thicker- but awesome)

For fun:

The Five People You Meet in Heaven (think that’s what its called – red/white cover)
Shopoholic Books – got hooked to the first one and then got tired of them – but it was a fun, light read!

My friend Kristin, living in Illinois replied:

Because I think after all that studying you should read nothing but trash…

I’d recommend using the tabs at the top and just picking the 5 star stuff or any area you are interested in (i.e. inspirational, working girl). From those areas you get some good books… and not like the Fabio, trashy stuff… just books about women that seriously you just can’t put down. It makes you feel worthless and brain dead… but oh so entertained!

I liked the site and wanted to pass the referral onto you!

What awesome books do YOU recommend?

Dreaming

Something strange has happened at the Beazley’s. I’m still investigating the case and will have to report back with – what on earth changed!!!

Clues:

  • Just before I left for the Calgary Stampede, I noticed one of my personal growth/self improvement books on the back of toilet. I didn’t put it there… (Did you know men do most of their reading in the bathroom? Hint hint, when you want them to read something, tab it, highlight the parts you want attention to, and just leave for them to discover!)
  • When I talked to John a couple times during the Calgary Stampede, he would respond to me with uplifting, motivational positive affirmations and principles. A few statements were very familiar, ones I know I’ve recited to my husband with a cheery tone in the past.
  • John excitedly informed me he’d like to make a dream board together. This one still has me in SHOCK!

These 3 books have been spotted in strange places:

artofinfluence   thegogiverbook   thesecretsoundtrack

A bit of background, for the past 3 years I’ve made and continued to develop a dream board, (which I highly suggest YOU do also!) however John has never seemed “moved” or interested in them before.

One evening this week, I suggested we play a game after supper. I was surprised when John suggested we work on our Dream Board instead. My amazing, passionate husband lit up with excitement just talking about the idea.

Is it just me, or am I dreaming?

5 Words

Describe yourself in 5 adjectives!

This is the challenge I accepted this morning, after reading one of my favorite bloggers website - CaseyRoon.com‘s (I love pretending that I’m living in Texas while reading about her life) entry A First and a 5 Adjective Exercise.

Synopsis:
“While I was reading, I read a blog about the movie Heartburn and the exercise that Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson have to take part in at a friend’s dinner party. They have to list 5 adjectives that describe them. I instantly started to think about how I would answer the question…” Read More…

I instantly Google‘d ”Adjective List” to get some motivation and the words flowing.

English has been a subject that I’ve struggled with. I didn’t “prefer” and didn’t take the time to perfect when learning the early fundamentals. Until a couple years ago – I’d probably say, what is an “adjective” again? My Mom was a teacher for years and even taught my two siblings and I Grade 5. Her speciality is English! My amazing mother proofread papers all the way through school (elementary right through to university) and with open eyes still kindly looks at things for me. When I mentioned writing a book – her eyebrows raised! She is one of my biggest cheerleaders - I am so blessed. I truly believe that her funky look was just her digesting the thought of all the pages and drafts, she’d be asked to take a peek at with her proofreading eyes. He he…a Mom knows best.

Here are the 5 words I came up with. It’s challenging to describe yourself – I think it’s easier to do for someone else! I’m sure later today or tomorrow, I’ll come up with more words that I like better, but this is what I’m going with: Outgoing, Ambitious, Sassy, Dreamer, Happy

I concluded that a text list didn’t look exciting enough, so I quickly created this Wordle:

Giving Back

Have a fantastic weekend!

We are Assistant Leaders for a local beef 4H club. I love being able to give back to a program that has helped shape me so significantly. Today is Achievement Day, where the 15 members in our club will show their Steers and be judged for Quality (southern Alberta term for Conformation!). The kids will also compete for Showmanship awards.

The keen youth moved their livestock in last night and weighed in their Steers. We then had a tug-o-war contest 4hsplitting the kids into teams and then did a big challenge between the 5 clubs. It was a hoot – only wish I had my camera. However, I was in the middle of the excitement and on the microphone – maybe someone else captured…

I love witnessing 4H members grow and improve their skills. This year, I decided to give 3 special gifts to members in our club. I’ve admired these shining stars determination and couldn’t narrow it down to 1 person in my mind. I’m excited to surprise them individually ;)

John is also really excited because he is judging the Swine show this evening.  He showed market hogs in FFA (youth agriculture program in the United States) and loves talking the reasons for swine.

I better run! I have the judges gifts, a few of the awards, and all the drinks and snacks – it’s hot out already. Hope you have an amazing weekend and the sun shines down on you.

Cheers,
Robyn

The Sales Diva Tattoo

I am constantly learning from vibrant savvy business women. I love sharing the tips I like with others, so you can benefit also.

I came across The Sales Diva, Kim Duke on the Internet over a year ago – not sure if it was an email or website, but I’m hooked. She’s a very successful diva from Sherwood Park, Alberta. Watch out – she’ll blow your hair back with her straightforward approach. Here is a synopsis from her recent ezine:

Tattoo This Sales Tip On Your Body

I love tattoos.  It must be the rebel side of me!  I don’t have one YET, however, I’m considering one by the end of this year.  (Don’t worry – I won’t go all Angelina Jolie or Kat Von D on you!)

I often joke with my seminar audiences to tattoo certain key phrases and tips on their bodies (the kind from bubble gum and lots of spit)  – it gets a laugh and it reinforces that this stuff is CRITICAL.

Welllllllll… I have one for you today.

It’s critical and you just may want to “tattoo” it on your bod.

The Sales Diva Tattoo Phrase Of The Day?

Customers make decisions based on VALUE and NOT PRICE.

Right now, many people think buyers always go for the lowest price.
Oopsie – that would be a mistake on your part!

If that were the case you’d be driving the cheapest car, living in the cheapest house, wearing and using the cheapest EVERYTHING including using the Sears catalogue for toilet paper in the bathroom.

If a potential buyer asks about your pricing (and they will) if you immediately say

” Ohhhh these rates are flexible and we can offer it for less”

what you’re actually saying is….

“I’m really not any different than the competition,
and I don’t believe I’m worth this much.”

You’ll be seeing lots of RED INK if that’s your attitude lady!

Remember – it’s YOUR JOB to increase the perceived value of what you sell.  Otherwise the potential customer thinks YOU ARE EXACTLY THE SAME as everyone else and they buy based on price.

Remember My Tattoo Mantra:

“Customers make decisions based on VALUE NOT PRICE.”

If you want to charge a higher price than the rest thennnn you’d better be ready to show off WHY your customer should fork out the cash.

You’d better be exceptional.
You’d better be different.
You’d better be ready to prove it.

Do Your Research – Kat Does!

If I want Kat Von D from LA Ink to do my tattoo there’s a year wait and a minimum $1000 price tag.

She may not be your cup of tea however you have to admit she’s brilliant at marketing and setting herself apart from the rest of the artists.  TV show and more….you bet she can charge whatever she wants.

You don’t need a TV show to charge more money but you certainly need to get your act together.

So there.

Love from your bossy Sales Diva,

Kim

Sunday Paper

This reminds me of my Aunt Jean. When I ask her, “How are you?” She replies, “I’m getting old” with a smile, her response is famous in my mind. I love hanging out with my grandparents, I hope you make opportunities to laugh with ”more experienced” citizens in your life. I enjoy learning from others – their memories and experiences are priceless.

SUNDAY PAPER

This is dedicated to all of us who are seniors, to all of you who know
seniors, and to all of you who will become seniors. It pays to be able
to laugh about it when you are!

“WHERE is my SUNDAY paper?!” The irate customer calling the newspaper
office, loudly demanded to know where her Sunday edition was.

“Madam”, said the newspaper employee, “today is Saturday. The Sunday
paper is not delivered until tomorrow, on SUNDAY”.

There was quite a long pause on the other end of the phone, followed
by a ray of recognition as she was heard to mutter, “Well, shit, so
that’s why no one was at church today.”
